2022 Belmont Stakes horses, contenders, odds, date: Expert who called last 2 winners reveals his picks

Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike has already made history as one of the greatest shooters in history to win the race, but he will be blessed to stand alone in horse racing history if he can win the 2022 Belmont Stakes on June 11. Never before in Triple Crown history has a horse won the Kentucky Derby, jumped the Preakness and won the Belmont Stakes in every year Belmont has raced after the Derby. Rich Strike returns as the early 5-1 favorite in the latest Belmont Stakes 2022 odds, but the field for this year’s latest Triple Crown jewel is impressive.

Rich Strike will have to overtake other 2022 Belmont Stakes contenders like Mo Donegal (5-2), We The People (7-2) and Creative Minister (6-1). Other household names that will be remembered by those following this year’s Triple Crown races include Ethereal Road (10-1), Skippylongstocking (13-1) and Barber Road (14-1). With so much to consider, you’ll want see what SportsLine’s Jody Demling has to say before we get into your 2022 Belmont Stakes picks or your own horse racing predictions, given his spectacular record in that race.

A fixture in the horse racing world who has written, spoken and bet on races for years, Demling enters the 2022 Belmont Stakes after winning the race in three of the last four years. He reached the exacta, the trifecta and the superfecta in the Belmont Stakes last year with Essential Qualiy. Two years ago Demling said Tiz the Law was clearly the class of the pack, and Barclay’s horse Tagg retired for a convincing 3 3/4 length win. In 2018, it was everywhere Justify, jockey Mike Smith and trainer Bob Baffert to write horse racing history at Belmont Park. The result: Justify became just the 13th Triple Crown winner of all time, and everyone who followed Demling’s lead also cashed in.

He’s just had a major warm-up in 2020: at one point he picked the winners of six races in a row: the Saudi Cup, Gotham Stakes, Rebel Stakes, Louisiana Derby, Florida Derby and Belmont Stakes.

Demling is at his best in the biggest horse races in the world. He has scored 10 of the last 14 Derby-Oaks doubles at Churchill Downs. That means he’s held a ticket with the winners of both races nearly four times in the last 14 years. He also called nine of the last 18 Preakness winners, fully understanding when the Kentucky Derby winner was on the verge of victory or a massive upset, and nailed this year’s Preakness trifecta. Anyone who followed him is huge.

Now, as the 2022 Belmont Stakes approach, Demling is sharing his picks and predictions on SportsLine. Go here to see them.

Best Belmont Stakes 2022 Predictions

One of Demling’s surprising picks for the 2022 Belmont Stakes: he’s fading We The People, despite being one of the favorites and his latest win also came at Belmont Park in the Peter Pan Stakes. We The People is jockeyed by Flavien Prat, who is an accomplished jockey, but has not raced any horses in previous Triple Crown races this year.

The only race We The People didn’t win came at the Arkansas Derby in April, and he finished a distant seventh, well behind other familiar horses like Cyberknife, Barber Road and Secret Oath. The Arkansas Derby track is shorter, at a mile and an eighth, which could portend a disappointing race at Belmont Park; the longest of the Triple Crown races. Against a field of other top horses, We The People don’t seem to have the long speed needed to pull themselves apart on the home stretch and should struggle to pull away from their Elmont counterparts.

How to Pick and Bet Belmont Stakes 2022
